Pansexual Pride

Hey! Kaydn here!

Here's an insight into pansexuality:

A lot of people refer to Pansexuals as Bisexuals.

People also tend to tell me that I am confused, but a lot of the time a simple explanation of my sexuality helps them understand.

There are a lot of LGBTQ+ terms, and not all of their definitions are clear to someone who isn’t LGBTQ+. If you are ever faced with someone who is confused or wants to know more, kindly start up a conversation.

However, there is a fine line between being confused and being rude. If someone is not accepting your sexuality and saying mean things, then walk away.

I find that walking away without saying anything makes them mad, but they most likely won’t try to follow you.

The Difference Between Bisexual and Pansexual:

If you’ve ever been confused about the difference, here’s the breakdown.

Bisexuality and Pansexuality both relate to the amount of genders one person can be attracted to.

The root bi-, means two.

Bisexual is being attracted to two different genders, not all of them.

The root pan- means all.

Pansexual is being attracted to anyone, male, female, transgender, non-binary, or gender fluid.

Pansexual Misconceptions:

Pansexuality Isn’t Real

Many people believe that Bisexuals and Pansexuals aren’t real. Some believe that pansexual and bisexual people need to pick a side and decide whether they are Heterosexual or Homosexual.

While some Bisexuals and Pansexuals later realize they are Heterosexual or Homosexual, most continue to identify as Bisexual or Pansexual.

Pansexuals find their unique sexual orientation to be an important part of their identity.

In today’s world, Pansexuality is starting to become a widely accepted sexuality. Many celebrities identify as Pansexual, including Miley Cyrus, Janelle Monae, and Brendon Urie.

Pansexuals Are The Only People Attracted To Non-Binary People:

This is actually a hotly debated issue between people of the LGBTQ+ community. Bisexuals and Pansexuals can be attracted to Non-binary individuals. Bisexuals can be attracted to any two genders, not specifically men and women. This includes Non-binary individuals. Pansexuals are attracted to all genders. This also includes Non-binary individuals.

Pansexual People Are Promiscuous And Don’t Have Standards:

While there prefix “pan” means “all”, it's a common myth that Pansexuals don’t have standards and will have romantic or sexual relations with anyone they meet.

THIS IS NOT TRUE!

Pansexuals have types and tendencies, just like everyone else.

How Do I Know If I’m Pansexual:

In the end, only you can decide your sexual orientation. Many people who identify as Pansexual started out believing they were Bisexual, because they found themselves attracted to multiple genders and Bisexual is the more common term.

Remember, it's always okay to change how you identify!

Until next time!
